A Couple of Fandom Notes: Gaiman's Coraline & Whedon's Dollhouse

I have determined that I am not critical enough of entertainment. I had no bleeping feminist alerts and my hackles were decidedly unraised by the ending of Coraline, which I won't reference directly. But this lovely review is um, lovely, and I agree with it 100%, in retrospect. I also didn't notice that she's left-handed- Adorable. (Link is thoroughly spoiler-filled.)

Also, tonight is the premier of Dollhouse. Hmm. In perfect honesty, I'm not feeling too good about this show. The premise is going to be either astronomical levels of epic, screaming awesome or really weak depending on his writing team. I'm also leery, as are many Whedon minions, about Fox's record of killing our souls with sadness by engaging in puppy genocide canceling Firefly.

From Fox's site:
ECHO (Dushku) is an "Active," a member of a highly illegal and underground group of individuals who have had their personalities wiped clean so they can be imprinted with any number of new personas. Hired by the wealthy, powerful and connected, the Actives don't just perform their hired roles, they wholly become -- with mind, personality and physiology -- whomever the client wants or needs them to be. Whether imprinted to be a lover, an assassin, a corporate negotiator or a best friend, the Actives know no other life than the specific engagements they are in at that time.

Hesitation aside, Eliza Dushku is flaming-fiery-surface-of-the-sun hawt and is having of the very good and sturdy acting chops. Also, it's still Joss, Lord and Creator of my top two favorite series ever. Here are the opening credits. I don't care for the music except the singsong, childish prettiness at the very end.

Other fans or critics wanna throw down a last minute thought before we actually see it?

  2. I did watch... wasn't blown away. I sort of expected that. I like Joss funny best; hence I like BtVS way better than Angel. But I'll give it another chance:)
