Senator Joe Manchin Addressed a Question by My Friend and Her Responses Are World-Rocking

I'm really unhappy with his response, as is Anne. He focused on her son and (though she expressed thanks for those kind words) she was disappointed that he missed that her question was much larger in scope. He earned a strong negative reaction from the crowd when he suggested that transgender kids can use staff or family restrooms.

The Town Hall was a long and thorough discussion of several topics. I have some video coming later of my own question about opiates in pain management relating to the question of legalizing marijuana. I'm laying out my friend Chase Henderson's notes and reaction to the discussion, with permission, below. (Follow Chase on Twitter.)

Big take-aways from the people's town hall:

* Manchin doesn't support the AHCA. That took so much tooth pulling to finally get out of him.
* His view on the confirmation hearings is defeatist. He is afraid if they oppose Gorusch then a worse justice will come along.
* At least he owns that he voted for Sessions.
* Didn't even realize about the emails for Pruitt.
*His views on opioid abuse and medical cannabis is dubious at best. Dangerous at worst. Believes gateway drug line.
*Thinks transgender rights is a state choice. Believes "separate but equal" bathrooms is a working solution.
* He did not misgender or deadname Caitlyn Jenner though.
* He will put dying coal industry first every chance he gets.
* Is on the Intelligence committee, and supports an independent investigation on Russia. "Russia interfered more than you know, but did not affect the outcome of the election." He needs to see outside of affecting our election than just tampering with voting machines.
* Thinks Trumps budget is ridiculous.
* Thinks education is something you earn and that those with Stafford loans get off "scot free".
* Supports releasing Trump's taxes, but did not know or believe Congress could release them on their own. He seems to be waiting for them to get leaked regardless.
* Thinks checks and balances will keep Trump in check as is.
* Is down to frak.
* Just thought of: Claims he has no idea where his contributions come from.

Me with "DINO Joe" after the Town Hall.
(Democrat In Name Only.)

So, I guess I'm a vlogger, too, now. I'm heading to the Capitol tomorrow to speak at a public hearing in the House of Delegates on HB2002, a horrifying bill which would eliminate a teen's right to obtain a doctor's waiver of parental notification.

I'm off to find Respectable Citizen 'Bouta Drop My Actual First Person Experience on Lawmakers Clothes.

Tell DINO Joe to protect transgender kids and adults by getting in touch with him here.

Want to grill the no-shows? Get in touch and find out why they didn't show up to hear from their constituents!

Senator Shelley Moore Capito
Representative Alex Mooney

Have a lovely week, 'Boners.
